Where to get free wifi

Timaru CBD

Free wireless internet is available in the CBD, with coverage stretching down Stafford Street from The Piazza overlooking Caroline Bay to the George Street intersection, as well as to several side streets.

The network, Vetta Public Wifi Users, provides access to free wifi for half an hour a day.

After that you have to pay $2.50 for three hours, $5 for one day or $20 for a week.

i-SITE Visitor Centre

Timaru’s i-SITE Visitor Centre is another good place for free wifi.

You’ll find the centre on George Street in the historic Landing Services Building.

District Libraries

The Timaru City, Temuka and Geraldine libraries offer free wifi through the Aotearoa People's Network. Alternatively, you can access the internet from one of the public computers located within the main Library. Wifi can be acccessed from both inside and outside of the buildings.

Spark phone boxes

Internet provider Spark have turned more than 1,000 of their public phone boxes into wifi zones, which means you can get a free 1GB of data every day.

There’s a week’s free trial available if you’re not Spark customer and it even works within 50 metres of a phonebox.

Keep an eye out for Spark phone boxes around town.

Temuka

Timaru District Council and Timaru-based Internet service provider Vetta Online have lit up a new, free public WiFi network in Temuka.  Anyone on the central section of King Street and around the Alpine Energy Community Centre in the Temuka Domain can access 500MB of fast, free WiFi every day.
