What to expect when you visit Timaru
You can generally expect summer to be hot and dry (we notched up a record-breaking 41.3 degrees Celsius in February 2011).
With the Timaru District being located in the lee of the South Alps, it can be cold in winter (frosty mornings and brisk five to six degrees days in June and July), though it rarely snows at sea level.
Summer + Autumn
It is a good idea to wear two layers (one warm) and bring a waterproof option. Sunblock and sturdy walking shoes are a must.
Winter + Spring
Wind and waterproof gear are essential through these months! Wrap up with a wooly beanie and gloves, with 2-3 layers. Merino socks are a nice treat to keep the feet warm!
