Timaru's Best Biking Tracks

                          

The Timaru District has a fantastic range of bike tracks. From stunning coastal paths to tracks through native bush, there are plenty of places to explore.

Centennial Park

Centennial Park offers a variety of trails spread across the reserve. You will find a map of all the tracks at the northern and southern entrances, along with car parking areas. Most tracks are shared use, so please be mindful of other users.

The majority of the tracks are flat with some gradual inclines.

Jack’s Point

This track follows the coast from Scarborough Road to Ellis Rd, passing the lighthouse in the middle.

Park at the end of Scarborough Rd and start your bike ride from here.

Take in the coastal scenery and sounds, and keep an eye out for Little Blue Penguins on the beach.

It's a 5km return trip, or 3.2km return if you travel as far as the lighthouse and back.

The track is mainly flat, but it does feature some gradual inclines.

Washdyke to Pleasant Point

The 14km one-way trail from Washdyke to Pleasant Point is flat and suitable for the whole family to enjoy. The trail is set back from the road, making it safe.

Temuka Domain

Explore the Temuka Domain by bike on the flat and well-maintained track. Start at the entrance to the Temuka Domain (beside the Police Station) and ride through to Torepe Fields. Follow through past the golf course before connecting up to Domain Avenue again underneath the trees back to the start of the track.

Pekapeka Gully and Riddells Reserve

If you are looking for a bit more action and are into downhill mountain biking, the Pekapeka Gully and Riddells Reserve are for you! The “A-Line” and “Mad Dog” are for the brave, but there are a variety of other trails that the whole family can enjoy.

Kids tracks

Woodbury School Pump Track

The Woodbury Pump track is located on Woodbury Road and is open to the public outside of school hours. A safe place for kids to build their confidence. Check out the Woodbury Domain while you are out there.

Caroline Bay Skills Park

The Caroline Bay Skills Park is a fantastic place for kids to learn basic road skills and how to ride safely on the road network. With street signs, traffic lights and more, kids will have a fun time navigating the tracks.

Temuka Primary Pump Track

A pump track surrounds the perimeter of the school's sports field at the corner of Domain Avenue and Wilkin Street.
