Welcome to the Timaru District

The Timaru District is located on the east coast of the Central South Island, 2 hours south of Christchurch,  2.5 hours north of Dunedin, and 1.5 hours from the famous Lake Tekapo / Takapō. The Timaru District is a large area spanning over 2700 km2 (1000m2) going from crystal coastlines through farmland, native forest before stretching into the Southern Alps. The Timaru District features the main city of Timaru located on the coast with stunning walks, historic lighthouses, fantastic shopping and eateries and Kororā  / Little Blue Penguins, Geraldine which is a foodie and nature lovers paradise, historic and quaint towns of Temuka and Pleasant, and the mountainous areas of Peel Forest and Mesopotamia  towards the Southern Alps.
