If you are looking for a more challenging hike or tramp, the Timaru District has three advanced to expert tracks to help get you sweating!

Little Mount Peel/Huatekerekere track

Inland from Geraldine, at Peel Forest, you will find many walking tracks, with one of the most popular tracks being Little Mount Peel/Huatekerekere. Climbing 1311 metres, you will be rewarded with magnificent views to Mt Somers, Mt Hutt and across the plains to the coast.

Duration: 4-7 hours return via various routes

Mount Nimrod Track

Located inland of Timaru City, in the Hunter Hills, the Mount Nimrod track climbs 400m to a waterfall that plummets down through a rock arch and provides stunning views out to the coast.

Hook Bush Route

Located in the Hunter Hills, the Hook Bush Route climbs a steep 300m to enjoy expansive views out across the Canterbury Plains. Keep your eyes open for wallabies and deer along the way.
